Disney Exhibition

A group of members had a wonderful afternoon at the ACMI Disney: The Art of Animation exhibition on sunny 28th June. Most, if not all, fondly remembered Disney’s earliest films, starting with Snow White in 1937! It was quite nostalgic and hard to believe it was so long ago. The displays included Mickey Mouse’s first talkie, Steamboat Willie (1928), and films such as Fantasia (1940), Sleeping Beauty (1959), The Little Mermaid (1989), The Lion King (1994), Frozen (2013), Moana (2016), Frozen II (2019) and the studio’s latest release, Raya and the Last Dragon (2021). No doubt many of you have watched these with your grandchildren. The exhibition of rare artworks including original paintings, sketches and concept art, plus short movie clips, was both interesting and entertaining.

We couldn’t leave without taking a quick look at ACMI’s new centrepiece exhibition The Story of the Moving Image.

We finished the day with coffee and dessert at Time Out
